STRANGERS IN THE GARDENS

the size of the works varies from 8.5/10 cm to 10/13 cm.

Some time ago, I bought a stack of photos at a flea market for $1.50. It seemed like a great investment in collage materials. But in the end, I couldn't bring myself to cut them up.
I felt a piercing sadness that photos, which someone had taken to capture the image of their loved ones, were ultimately being sold indifferently by strangers at a flea market. Even though the people in these photos are complete strangers to me, and may have long since passed away, I wanted to take them out of their current context and place them in a safe environment.
I cover the photos with shimmering tulle like a light veil of anonymity, out of an intuitive desire to protect the identity of the person looking into the frame.
And I embroider over the veil, without a sketch, highlighting the silhouettes but not emphasizing the faces. This is how my strangers end up in a mysterious garden.
